Forget the rumors, forget the speculation and definitely forget all that Tim Tebow talk. The cast list for the 14th season of "Dancing With the Stars" is now known.

Here are the names of the 12 stars who will soon vie for the competition's coveted mirror-ball trophy and their pro partner matches:

• Gladys Knight, 67 ? The eight-time Grammy winner is paired with pro hoofer Tristan MacManus.
• Melissa Gilbert, 47 -- The actress-writer-producer, best known for her role as Laura Ingalls Wilder on "Little House on the Prairie," will dance alongside the bad boy of the ballroom Maksim Chmerkovskiy.
• Jack Wagner, 52 -- The soap star had memorable roles in daytime and primetime with "General Hospital" and "Melrose Place," and he's hoping to have memorable moves with partner Anna Trebunskaya.
• Gavin DeGraw, 35 -- Singer-songwriter DeGraw, who sang the theme song to "One Tree Hill," is paired with last season's pro champ, Karina Smirnoff.
• Donald Driver, 37 -- The Green Bay Packers wide receiver will have a shot at ballroom glory with pro Peta Murgatroyd.
• Roshon Fegan, 20 -- This Disney Channel star will waltz alongside Chelsie Hightower.
• Katherine Jenkins, 31 -- Jenkins, an operatic pop star from Wales, is set to dance with pro Mark Ballas.
• William Levy, 31 -- Actor and former model Levy made his mark in Jennifer Lopez's steamy video, "I'm Into You," and he'll have a chance to make a mark on the "Dancing" stage with partner Cheryl Burke
• Maria Menounos, 33 -- The actress and "Extra" host has three-time "Dancing" champ Derek Hough on her side.
• Martina Navratilova, 55 -- Former tennis pro and sports commentator Navratilova will learn her steps from Tony Dovolani.
• Sherri Shepherd, 44 -- "The View" cohost and actress will dance with the ballroom's other Chmerkovskiy -- Val.
• Jaleel White, 35 -- He's best known for his role as Steve Urkel on the '90s hit "Family Matters," and TV audiences might soon know him for his fancy footwork beside partner Kym Johnson.

Out of the frying pan, into the fire: Global intelligence firm Stratfor may have secured its perimeters after its servers were infiltrated late last year, but a mammoth email dump just hit the grid courtesy Wikileaks.

In December 2011, members of the hacktivist collective Anonymous suggested they?d breached Texas-based intelligence and threat analysis firm Stratfor, goading the company by tweeting ?Thanks for storing your customers? CC/CCV #s in cleartext, w/corresponding addresses. Y u no bother encrypting?? At the time, a security firm laid hands on the stolen data, deducing that 9,000 active credit cards, 27,000 phone numbers and 20,000 ?easily cracked? passwords had been dumped into the online wilds. Anonymous members also claimed at the time that they had emails from over 100 company employees and would eventually release them.

The other shoe may finally be dropping: Controversial whistleblower Wikileaks has begun publishing some five million emails???dubbed ?The Global Intelligence Files????allegedly pilfered from the geopolitics site. According to Wikileaks, the emails ?reveal the inner working of a company that fronts as an intelligence publisher, but provides confidential intelligence services to large corporations.? Wikileaks name-checks several Fortune 500 corporations as well as U.S. government agencies in its statement.?The group hasn?t confirmed the emails were handed off by Anonymous, but one of the hacker group?s Twitter accounts?offered self-plaudits this morning, hailing ?the amazing?partnership between #Anonymous and #WikiLeaks to make all 5 MILLION mails public.?

Stratfor?s response this morning has been to call the release ?a deplorable, unfortunate ? and illegal ? breach of privacy.? It?s also calling into question the emails? veracity, writing that??[some] of the e-mails may be forged or altered to include inaccuracies; some may be authentic,? adding that it ?will not validate either ? [nor] will we explain the thinking that went into them.? Stratfor adds that its data servers?remain ?secure and protected.?

Wikileaks claims the emails??show Stratfor?s web of informers, pay-off structure, payment laundering techniques and psychological methods,? adding that the emails ?expose the revolving door that operates in private intelligence companies in the United States? and alleging that government-related sources around the world give Stratfor political scoops in trade for cash. Speaking to Reuters, Wikileaks founder Julian Assange called Stratfor ?a private intelligence firm, relying on informants from the U.S. government, foreign intelligence agencies with questionable reputations and journalists,? adding that??[what] is of grave concern is that the targets of this scrutiny are, among others, activist organizations fighting for a just cause.?

Shortly after September 11, 2001, Stratfor, which had made its ?breaking news? and predictive analysis available freely to the public, was referred to in a Barron?s piece as a kind of??shadow CIA,? allegedly ?ahead of the news ??and the CIA ??in global hotspots.?

I?m no expert on Stratfor?s inner workings, how they get their information, or who they sell it to, but I?ve consulted the free side of their website on and off since the late 1990s, when a friend pointed me their way for what he described as ?global intelligence analysis.? He added that its head mucky-muck, George Friedman, tended to be hawkish on international matters, but said the level of detail the site offered was unlike anything available elsewhere in the media. I found that to be true then, though it?s been nearly a decade since I?ve spent much time there, and couldn?t say now.

Chain restaurants are faring better than indepdendents lately.

Think of the last time you went out to eat, and be honest: Did you chow down at a favorite locally owned haunt, or opt for the familiarity of a chain restaurant?

A new report from market researchers NPD Group finds that overall, Americans are eating out less than? few years ago, as the weak economy has caused people to cut back on such splurges. Total restaurant visits have fallen every year since 2008, from 62.7 billion restaurant visits that year to 60.6 billion in 2011.

The cutbacks have hit mom-and-pop restaurants much harder than chains. The NPD Group data shows that independent restaurants now account for 27 percent of restaurant visits, down from 28 percent in 2008.

When business falls, closures are inevitable. Although the number of independent restaurants increased slightly between 2008 and 2009, many independent restaurateurs have since had to throw in the towel.

In the past two years, NPD reports that the number of independent restaurants in the U.S. has fallen by 8,652. In that same two-year period, the number of chain restaurants has increased by 1,750.

Everleaf Gaming Issues First Statement Since Exiting U.S. Market ...

After two weeks of silence following its swift exit from the U.S. market, Everleaf Gaming has released an official statement confirming that player funds have been seized by U.S. authorities.

According to a seizure order from the U.S. District Court of the Western District of Washington, investigators were tracking the transactions of one of Everleaf's payment processors, Causash Establishment. Last October, a warrant was issued ordering Bank of New York Mellon to seize all incoming and outgoing wire transfers on behalf of Causash Establishment for 14 days.

On Feb. 9, players residing in the U.S. were prohibited from using any of Everleaf's 100-plus skins after the company received a cease and desist order from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Everleaf Gaming was silent regarding the stoppage, but the company issued the following press release on Thursday:

As has been reported, certain funds maintained by one of our payment processors to be distributed to U.S. customers were seized by U.S. authorities. To our knowledge, the U.S. authorities seized these funds and blocked the transactions based on purported violations of certain U.S. laws, including operating an illegal money transmitting business, the Wire Act, and money laundering. Evidence relative to the subject can be reviewed from the attached papers.

Please be advised that this seizure occurred in the United States and only affects U.S. players.

In view of the above, Everleaf will no longer accept U.S. players. Nonetheless, Everleaf reiterates and wants to reassure all the effected players that all the funds will be refunded in full and the effected parties will be contacted in a short while accordingly.

For the other markets we operate in and with regards to all our other players we want to reassure you that nothing has changed and thank you for the continued business with our Company.

We sincerely apologize for the lack of communication to date, but as a Company we were still trying to find our feet and assessing the situation at hand and how to best protect the interest of all the effected parties.

Everleaf Gaming did not state how much is owed to U.S. players or how the money would be refunded, but the company says that all player funds are covered and in line with the conditions of the company's Maltese gaming license.

ViewSonic adds ViewPad G70, E100 and P100 to its tablet collection

In addition to the ICS phone trio, ViewSonic's also just announced three new tablets ahead of the MWC party. Pictured on the left is the 7-inch "super light, super slim" ViewPad G70 -- to be sold alongside the E70 -- featuring Android Ice Cream Sandwich, 1GB RAM, 4GB storage, microSD expansion, a two-megapixel imager and a 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera, along with various ports including mini HDMI, micro-USB and mini-USB. Oddly enough, ViewSonic hasn't confirmed the G70's processor specs, but we'll let you guys know when we do.

Another ICS tablet in this lineup is the 9.7-inch ViewPad E100. While we're still waiting for its press shots, we're told that this slate packs a 1,024 x 768 IPS display, a 1GHz chip, and the usual selection of connectivity like HDMI, USB and microSD. All of this comes in a package weighing 620g and at 9.1mm thick.

Last but not least, we have the Windows 7-powered ViewPad P100 pictured on the right, featuring a 10-inch 1,280 × 800 IPS display, a dual-core 1.6GHz Intel Atom N2600 and a camera on both the front and the back. No deets on pricing and availability just yet, so stay tuned as we scan the MWC show floor next week.

How monkeys handle moral outrage

During a 2011 talk at the TEDxPeachtree conference in Atlanta, primatologist Frans de Waal discusses the moral sense possessed by monkeys, apes and elephants.

When Occupy Wall Street and similar protests played out over the past year, the phenomenon looked familiar to Emory University primatologist Frans de Waal: He's seen similar moral outrage over economic inequity expressed by monkeys and chimps. And he thinks we could learn a lesson or two from our fellow primates.

"The role of inequity in society is grossly underestimated," he told reporters today, on the final day of this year's meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in Vancouver, Canada. "Inequity is not good for your health, basically."

Based on primate studies, that goes for the haves as well as the have-nots. Far from being a uniquely human quality, a sense of fairness is something biologists have seen in studies of primates as well as crows and dogs. Even elephants may have an appreciation of inequity, although de Waal said he and his colleagues haven't done such a study with that species because "you don't want to piss off an elephant."

One of the classic studies involves capuchin monkeys who were given treats when they exchanged tokens with their human handlers. Two types of treats were offered: cucumber slices (meh...) and grapes (yum!). If one monkey saw that another monkey was consistently getting grapes while she was getting only cucumber slices, she'd quickly start protesting ? by flinging the cucumber back at the handler and angrily jumping onto the cage walls.

"This is basically the Wall Street protest right here," de Waal said.

De Waal's replay of the scene never fails to get a human laugh, whether it's at the AAAS meeting or at a TEDx conference in Atlanta, as shown in the must-see video above. But there are serious points behind the laughter: Inequality causes tension and stress, not only for the one who gets the cucumber, but also for the one gets the grape (or a million-dollar bonus) and has to endure the resulting outrage.

Some primates actually get the message. "In some combinations, the one who gets the grape refuses it unless the other one gets the grape," de Waal said. Other primates make a different choice. De Waal pointed to a chimpanzee study of selfish vs. altrustic behavior, in which the chimps are more likely to be in a sharing mood if they've attracted the attention of another chimp. However, they're not quite as likely to share if the other chimp is actively pressing them to do so.

The bottom line from de Waal's talk is that a sense of fairness, outrage over moral equality and the ability to reconcile and cooperate are not uniquely human behaviors. Rather, such sensibilities were hard-wired into brains long before the rise of the human species. This is reflected in neuroscience as well, de Waal said. "Very ancient parts of the brain are involved in moral decision making," he observed.

Here are a few more nuggets from de Waal's lecture and news briefing in Vancouver:

• Different primate species express signs of reconciliation in different ways. For example, stumptail monkeys make up by inspecting each other's rear ends, without ever looking each other in the eye. In contrast, chimps and other apes (including us hairless apes) "need eye contact" when they reconcile their differences, de Waal said.
• Men make a characteristic pursed-lip gesture when expressing regret ? a gesture that's also widely seen in other male primates under similar circumstances. But de Waal says it's rarer to see women making that pursed-lip look.
• Empathy?? the ability to share an emotional connection with other individuals ? isn't unique to humans. But humans, like many other species, make a distinction between in-group and out-group connections. Having a sense of empathy for people beyond our "in-group," however that's defined, may be a "fragile experiment" being conducted by our species, de Waal said.
• During an earlier session at the AAAS meeting, a group of scientists and philosophers called for the promulgation of a "Declaration of Rights for Cetaceans." De Waal was asked what he thought of setting up a declaration of rights for non-human primates, and he replied that he generally took a "welfarist" view toward other species. Humans were bound by an obligation to animals rather than by a set of rights drawn up on their behalf, he said. He pointed to the recently adopted limits on chimpanzee research as an example. "If they [chimps] are not so necessary for biomedical studies, should we be using them in biomedical studies?" de Waal asked.

Marketing Esl And Other Language Programs: The Importance Of ...

In my work as an educational consultant who specializes in working with language schools, one question I am often asked is: How do you find a reputable educational agent?

Part of the answer is to avoid wasting your time with unproductive potential agents. That may sound harsh, but it isn?t when you consider that your reputation as a school is on the line. If youve ever been in the classroom, chances are that youve had a student who wants to monopolize your time in ways that dont contribute to the overall lesson or are just plain distracting or even bothersome.

As teachers, we learn how to handle students with all kinds of personalities and motives of their own. We learn to set boundaries with them while keeping the lesson focussed and hopefully avoid too much disruption in the classroom. That?s effective classroom management. We try to achieve this in ways that allow us to avoid embarrassing the student, if possible, while making it clear that as the teacher, were the one in control of the class and thats the way it should be. In fact, if we dont do that as teachers, we may lose others respect and not be taken as seriously.

The same idea applies to business relationships, particularly when it comes to others outside your school who want to work with you or represent you. The larger your program grows, the more people you will have knocking on your door wanting to work with you. Annoying though it may be, this is a good sign. It means you are being noticed and your image is one of success.

One of the ways that businesses get more business is to let the world know who their partners are. If an educational agent or tour operator can say they are working with ABC Language School and that school is well known in the community, either locally or internationally, then it lends them credibility and prestige.

Thats precisely why you want to take your time establishing new business relationships. It just may be that you dont want your name associated with that business.

One tactic that I learned while managing a university ESL program was to ask prospective new business partners or agents for a package in writing. Sometimes if the person was in the same city, either living here or just passing through, they would insist on a personal meeting first. I would gently but firmly state, in every case, that it was our policy to consider written proposal first, before a meeting. The reality was that the first few times I said that, I was fibbing. We didnt actually have such a policy. Having said that, we quickly created an internal policy that stated we had to receive all proposals in writing before a telephone or an in-person meeting.

Once everyone in the office knew the policy, we all stuck by it, asking frontline clerical staff to help prevent such calls coming through to us. One polite way for an administrative staff member to do this is to say, If you send the written proposal to my attention, I promise that will hand-deliver it to our manager to ensure she receives it. Anyone who took the time to send a proposal even a one-page, detailed letter would gain our attention, at least long enough for us to review the proposal.

If they couldnt deliver, we would gently but firmly stand our ground and move on. I was able to stop wasting time on agents and others who may or may not have had good intentions. And it also set out from the beginning who was in charge of our programs: we were.

That was the first step. From there, we requested references and examples of previous work done. If this caused our prospective business partner distress or caused them to become uncomfortable, we eliminated them from our list of possibilities.

Sometimes, the prospect would say, Oh, well our partners are located in a foreign country and no one here speaks the language. We would always reply that we were prepared to hire professional, accredited translators to check references. Very rarely did we ever hire a translator to check anyones references.

The steps we followed were:

* Insist on a written proposal first.
* If you receive a form letter or pre-made package, request more details on how exactly they would propose that you work together. Get this information in writing.
* Insist on references. If they cant or wont give these to you, the process ends there.
* Arrange a phone or in-person interview during which they do most of the talking. Ask about the history of the business, the persons credentials, and examples of experiences they have had working with other language schools.
* Close the meeting saying that you will consider their proposal and you will get back to them within a fixed amount of time (usually not more than one week, unless youre about to leave on a trip). Never agree to anything on the spot.

Part of the process involved abiding by our policies and the next step was to gauge the reaction of our prospective partners at certain points along the way. It became like a behavioral interview. If the other party wanted to bend our rules from the very beginning, insisted on doing things their way instead of ours or if they became frustrated, aggressive or unwilling to cooperate with us at any time, we knew we didnt want to work with them.

In the end, there can be any number of reasons why you would choose not to pursue a business relationship, including (but not limited to):

* The relationship may not be mutually beneficial.
* What the prospective agent wants to provide for you is not something you need at the moment (i.e. not a good fit from a business point of view.)
* The timing of the proposal is off. This can happen if you are undergoing changes in your organization. You can always ask the other party to check back with you again in six months.
* Your gut tells you that working with the other party would be a bad decision.

Although we sent some policies and procedures in place for dealing with prospective new business partners, the bottom line was for us to feel comfortable with the new person. You want your business partners to respect how you run your organization, be willing to provide you with what you need and be as interested in your success as you are.

Remember the 80/20 rule. 80% of your business will come from 20% of your clients. You want to ensure you have the time and energy to cultivate strong relationships with your top 20%. Recommendations for Buenos Aires | Voluntario Global ? Take the ...

Restaurants
For me the food and dining culture in Buenos Aires is among the best in the world. Many volunteers have told me the food is better across South America but it?s the atmosphere of the restaurants and the fact that dining out is a regular part of an Argentine?s lifestyle that makes 3-hour meals fly by and leave you looking forward to the late hours of the day. Gu?a Oleo (http://www.guiaoleo.com.ar/) is a fantastic guide to all the restaurants in town and gives you all the information you need. Below are some suggestions and my thoughts on the experiences of them:

La Pasiva- Corrientes
A casual Uruguayan diner on the busy street of Corrientes. Very nice atmosphere with inside or outside dining available. The food is very filling and comes in big portions; very typical of Uraguay- try the Chivito or the metro de pizza.
La Cabrera- Jos? Antonio Cabrero, Palermo
Renowned as one of the best Steak houses/Parillas in Buenos Aires. Quite pricy but worth every penny as the Steaks are incredibly juicy and large. They also have good sharing options which makes it easy to go in a small group. Go early(ish) as there can be a long wait.

La Cholita- Rodriguez Pe?a
A VG favourite! This parilla is not too far from the Casa de Voluntarios and is effectively a cheaper alternative to La Cabrera (above). But that do esn?t mean you lose any flavour, the steaks are large and served on a hot platter, the restaurant also has a very good wine list.
Campo de Asadores- Puerto Madero (near Puente de la Mujer)
An excellent and traditional Argentine restaurant. It has a campo theme meaning the food and the decor imitates the field-life of the country?s estancias. Based in a beautiful location, you can sit by the water or inside and enjoy the suede table-cloths and Gaucho-dressed waiters.
Hard Rock Caf?- Pueyrred?n
An international classic. I?m sure you?ll all have visited a Hard Rock at some point and this lives up to expectations! Great food, American style BBQs are the favourite and then you?re free to enjoy the various rock memorabilia spread around the walls (heavily Beatles themed in this case)
Iberia- Avenida de Mayo
This is very near the volunteer house and is quite a modern restaurant with a wide range of food. Drinks are expensive but the food is very reasonably priced and even comes with flags on top to tell you where the recipe is from! You can eat at a bar, at a table or outside and I would strongly recommend the empanadas or any of the ?Spanish? menu.

Night-Life
As you may already know the night-life out here is a booming experience and very different to what I would be used to coming from Europe! ?Pubs? aren?t so common over here and bars will usually also serve food; what I would recommend is taking advantage of the cheap ?litro? bottles and finding a place to gather until you want to properly go out.? Clubs will never normally open until about midnight and even then you will find yourself very alone if you arrive before 2am. The Argentines are not massive drinkers which at least does mean you?ll rarely have to find yourself in a long queue for the next drink!

Clubs/Bars
Gibraltar- Per?
Great British style pub in the heart of San Telmo. They serve phenomenal Thai food as well as traditional British pub food. Also, it?s one of the few bars I?ve seen that will serve your beer in a pint glass and not a bottle.

Skybar- Hotel Pulitzer (Maip?)
Relatively pricey but an amazing view with a unique atmosphere. Champagne and cocktails are flowing while a DJ plays on the patio balcony.
Cruzat- Sarmiento
A Celtic-style pub that boasts over 50 types of beer (light and dark) based in a small tropical garden; quite near the VG house.
Amerika- Palermo
Fridays and Saturdays offer an all you can drink bar for between AR$65-85 and on alternative weeks has foam parties!
Terrazas del Este ? Palermo
With 3 different rooms playing different styles of music (Latin, Rock, Hip-hop) this club will please the majority of your group. The large balcony/terrace that gives the club it?s name is also great in the summer time.
Le Click- Rivadavia
This is somewhere I was taken frequently when I first arrived in Buenos Aires. Again, a very large club with 2 floors that plays modern music. 5 minutes from the VG house so always good for an impromptu night out.
La Bomba de Tiempo
Featured in BBC?s travel log as an ?unmissable experience?. This is a Brazilian drumming event that takes place in an outdoor arena every Monday. Perhaps the most unique, South American and fun event I?ve been to in the city.

Tourism
Buenos Aires is a historical and passionate city with tourist hot-spots to match. There is an ?architectural bus-tour? that will show you some of the best points but I think it is much better to take the time to truly explore each spot, and as a volunteer, this will be an easily taken advantage of opportunity. Many travellers have said to me that they think of Buenos Aires as their ?home in South America? which is a fantastic way of describing how good a hub this city is for many of your travelling desires.

Something fantastic about living in Buenos Aires is the ease at which you can explore surrounding areas. The bus/coach system inside the country means you can sip wine in Mendoza one weekend and scale the glaciers of Patagonia the following! As well as that there?s a one hour ferry to the beautiful old village of Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay where many people go to turn the lugubrious task of extending a visa into a frivolous weekend. And of course there are many amazing things to see in Buenos Aires. The Casa Rosada is an amazing structure and on Thursdays you can see the ever-present ?Madres de Plaza de Mayo? walking around the square which is not to be missed. La Boca is a beautiful and impoverished area that is always good for a trip to a bar or souvenir haggling. Similarly make sure you head to the San Telmo market on a Sunday afternoon.

Relaxation Points

In the vast yet homely metropolises that is Buenos Aires it is not uncommon for travellers to seek pastures new for some open space and relaxation. Of course the bus services and ferry terminals mentioned above can transport you to something a bit different but what about comforting opportunities in the capital itself?

Parks
Palermo is about a 15 minute SUBTE ride away and has many glorious parks and plazas. Many long term volunteers choose to find an apartment in Palermo for this very reason. If I had to recommend one in particular I would say the Jardines Botanicos,but I think that ma y just be due to my (un)healthy obsession with the cats that roam there. Closer to the centre the Plaza de Congreso is a nice place to go for a run or a stroll but is still largely concrete.

Caf?s
Buenos Aires has a good tradition of Caf?s, perhaps coming from the French and Italian immigrants. All tend to serve lunch style food (sandwiches, small pasta dishes etc) and have a vast range of coffee that was certainly unfamiliar but very pleasant to me! You will be able to find a small shop on almost any street (and inevitably Starbucks) but here?s some of my favourite frequents:

El Gato Negro- Corrientes
One of the oldest caf?s in the city, this is a very small caf? that has over 100 types of coffee from all over South America (which is arguably the greatest coffee growing region!) You can also buy bags of your favourite beans to take home.

Caf? Tortoni- Avenida de Mayo
Home to Argentina?s first Tango Academy, this caf? is quite large and very beautiful. Occasionally there are tango shows so look out for events. The food and table service is top class at this famous tourist attraction.

Mat?
For anyone who hasn?t been to Argentina (or Paraguay/Uraguay) before, prepare for mat? to become a large part of your life. It?s a very traditional drink drunk out of a special mat? cup and bombilla, all the staff at the projects will more than likely offer you some each day and although some consider it an acquired taste, it?s the perfect way to relax and stay alert while in South America.
