Dawn Approach new favourite for St James?s Palace Stakes ? Horseracing news
Dawn Approach has been named as the new favourite for the St James?s Palace Stakes following his impressive workout recently.
He was not expected to be back in action this early after his lacklustre showing in the Investec Derby, but things have been moving on in the right direction for him.
Moreover, it is expected that Magician will miss out on the major event, which means that there will be no real challenge for the 2,000 Guineas winner.
According to the favourite trainer Jim Bolger, ?Dawn Approach worked this morning and all went well. I was happy with him and he will be travelling to Ascot.?
The three-year-old colt was priced as the favourite to win the Investec Derby, but a small incident at the start of the race cost him a chance to maintain his 100 percent winning record. He had a little collision with another horse, which simply put him out of control of the rider Kevin Manning.
As a result, Bolger?s trainee finished right at the bottom of the table, which was quite shocking for the entire camp and the horseracing fans.
Right after that race, it was revealed that the quality stallion will be rested for some time, thus might end up missing the Royal Ascot. However, he showed impressive form in all of the practice sessions and encouraged his camp to run him in the St James's Palace Stakes.
This was positive news for Manning, who said of his challenger, ?I'm happy with him, he's very relaxed and feels the same as he did before the 2,000 Guineas. I thought Magician was very impressive at both Chester and in the Irish 2,000 Guineas and he looks very smart. This is what it's about, the best taking each other on.?
Dawn Approach has participated in a total of eight races in his career, winning seven of them. He will not be able to emulate what Frankel did, but that does not make him a less good stallion. He has got a couple of more years to dominate his rivals and if he manages to do that, his lone loss will be forgotten by everyone.
