Baldwin Wallace University in Berea offers free tax clinics

BEREA -- Baldwin Wallace University is offering free tax preparation services to the community through its Tax Clinic.

The clinic, which the Business Administration division sponsors, will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the following Sundays: Feb. 17, Feb. 24, March 3 and 24.

Residents who need help may call for an appointment or drop in for tax preparation services at Kamm Hall, 191 E. Center St., Berea.

This year the clinic partnered with the Cuyahoga County EITC Coalition to make the services an IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance tax preparation site targeting individuals with income below $50,000. Due to this partnership, prepared tax returns can be E-Filed, which reduces the client?s wait time for a refund.

Appointments may be made by calling 211, a United Way assistance help line. Returns are prepared on a first-come, first-serve basis for those without an appointment. Returns will not be prepared without the appropriate documentation for income and related expenses. Taxpayer identification is required and a Social Security card must be presented for each dependent claimed on the return.

The clinic allows BW students, under faculty supervision, to gain experience working with clients in real life situations, while providing a service to the community.
