Gas Training Excellence
Kier is leading the way in providing valuable gas engineering careers and training after announcing 6,096 candidates have successfully qualified through its UK training centres.
The leading construction, services and property group marked Gas Safety Week (10-16 September) by celebrating the achievements of its state-of-the-art domestic and commercial gas training centres over the last ten years.
Kier?s first Gas Technical Training Centre opened in Sheffield in 2001 to fulfil the training needs of Kier staff from across the region, before expanding to cater for external trainees from around the city. Since then the Manor Lane site has welcomed more than 6,000 candidates through its doors. This success paved the way for another centre to open in North Tyneside in 2011. To date, the Gas Training at Kier site at Killingworth has provided training for almost 100 people.
Both Accredited Certification Scheme (ACS) centres represent a key part of Kier?s wider efforts to address worklessness in Yorkshire and the north-east, having helped thousands of people progress in their careers or secure employment. They have also helped to create the next generation of tradespeople by promoting gas engineering as a career option to school and college leavers, and retraining ex-servicemen resettling into civilian life.
Certificated by BPEC, the leading provider of training and certification for the building services engineering sector, the Sheffield and North Tyneside centres offer a wide range of domestic and commercial gas training and reassessment courses to Kier employees and local residents.
The courses enable gas engineers, whether self employed or working through a company, to stay up to date with current gas legislative requirements, including the Gas Safe standard, a legal requirement for those responsible for the installation and maintenance of gas appliances.
Kier has forged successful partnerships with councils, colleges, businesses and the Armed Forces to offer valuable training and encourage future gas engineering careers. Through its work with the Careers Transition Partnership (CTP), Kier has helped leavers of all ranks from the Royal Navy, Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Marines, resettle into civilian life, retrain in gas engineering and secure employment.
